HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 Driver & Wireless Setup - Manual & Software
We were meant to be paperless with today. Seriously, between smartphones and tablets, there is no reason to transmit paper is there? The reality isthat newspaper makes the world go round. And that means a good printer for the office is a must. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 looks like a large office multi-function printer but comes at a small office price.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 Driver Evaluation

The paper tray holds 250-sheets, however should you need to expand you may incorporate another paper tray to get a 500-page total. Both printer and scanner service automatic duplexing, which means that you can print, scan, replicate or interrogate fax documents. Furthermore, using this being 2016, there is a significant colour touchscreen for direction and NFC for quick and simple pairing with cellular devices.

This MFP's touchscreen is intuitive however less responsive since HP's' best. We are disappointed to come across a couple of natural office features were missing: there is not any decision to repair a printing project, and by an additional USB pole you can publish photographs, not PDF or other file files. Furthermore, it's a shame to discover no skip feed for certain media.

It is a particularly speedy printer, supplying our black text evaluation at 21.4 pages per minute (ppm), and at draft quality attaining 25.4ppm -- quicker than HP's preserved speed. Colour prints were fast, too: its 8.6ppm in our graphics-heavy test is over average. Fortunately, this speed does not come at the expense of quality: black text was dim and sharp, and images were powerful and totally free of grain or rebut we did place a small amount of bleed on our 80gsm test paper.

Photocopy quality was also quite high, with just copies carrying about 14 seconds, and even a 10-page mono copy only 65 minutes. Exactly the same job in color took 90 minutes, that is still fairly rapid. We, not fans of HP's over-simplified TWAIN scanning port, in which 150dpi scans are not normally offered. This MFP also failed to scan 1,200dpi unless we completed a trailer initially and, as standard, studies in 600dpi and above seemed to have been sharpened, without an opt-out.

Although it isn't perfect, this is generally an fantastic MFP. It aided by reasonable ink costs of roughly per cent a shameful A4 page, or 4.3p in full colour -- calculated for its 953XL colour and 957XL black capsules. At this cost, if you are able to live without a PCL driver, then we'd recommend Epson's WorkForce Guru WF-5620DWF. The OfficeJet Pro 8720 is a decent choice.

Once I'd removed what felt like a thousand pieces of tape that kept all the pieces and bits of the printer secure for transport, I popped it on a small IKEA Lack coffee table for examining. The initial setup process is handled via the 10.9 cm touchscreen that let me set some basic information such as the time and date, as well as hook up the printer to my community network. I chose the WiFi choice - the times of me connecting things through Ethernet or USB are supporting me although the 8720 does encourage those options - but was surprised this modern apparatus simply supports 802.11 b/g/n on the 2.4GHz band.

This is one of those things that surprises me many printers appear to skimp on the 5GHz radio.

I set up the capsules and popped a few paper from the feeder and let the setup do everything. There is no desire to dive to the manual to work out just how do these things since there are useful on-screen animations that show what type doors and flaps that you need to open to feed the 8720's belly.

All told, from cutting the tape on the box to using my first page print, setup took approximately 10 minutes.

However,.the following day, after the first setup, the printer's display popped up a message saying that there was a firmware upgrade available. This is a great thing in my opinion. Many end-point apparatus are a pain to upgrade as they require logging in via an internet browser. HP was working in their printer safety for a while, mainly with enterprise devices. It is excellent to find some of those features, such as easier system updates, which makes their way into their smaller office solutions.

On my Windows 10 programs, the printer was automatically detected on the network and the appropriate drivers were installed. Additionally, HP's AiO application was also installed. The program makes it effortless to check consumable degrees, handle the print queue and run other printer admin jobs. There are mobile versions of this AiO Printer Remote app for iOS along with Android as well.

I added the 8720 to a few Windows machines also took good advantage of this AirPrint support from my iPhone. The four capsules, a bigger black tank and cyan, magenta and yellow were supplied with the printer.

The first document I printed as a dense, four-page slab of text. I place he 8720 to print six copies of the document with 2 pages per sheet and then double sided. The times of text being obscured in the inkjet printer are well behind us. Test text, despite its small size was clear and I couldn't discover any bleeding between adjacent letters along with other anomalies.

My second evaluation record was a business document with colored segments, organized in a table with unique fonts. I shipped this one from my iPhone. I shot the default setting of a single page each sheet together with duplex printing enabled. The seven-page document was prepared for me than a minute later hitting the"Print" button.

My third document was one page consisting of text, a colour image along with a black and white picture. From hitting the printing command on a pc to final output, across the network, I had the document in just a couple seconds. The text appeared great. The colour photo was a little grainy but the black and white picture was exceptional.

The 8720 additionally supports picture printing. I loaded a few photo paper into the main tray - there's just one paper feed which is a bit of a pain. The touchscreen made it effortless to change the document size and kind from plain paper to photo. But for some reason that the 8720 didn't wish to play with my photograph paper, refusing to pick it up. I got from the display was a less than useful message saying"paper problem".

So, unfortunately, I can't tell you about print quality on photo paper.

The HP officejet Pro 8720 supports numerous different scanning modes. You can create an email so documents you scan can be routed to an email address, it is possible to scan to USB or a network folder.

The scanner just affirms single-sided files - that is handy for some things but less for shooting double-sided documents. I scanned a range of unique files and all were delivered at good quality. Pictures were apparent, as were documents with various unique typefaces and font sizes.

As a result, the 8720 also produces a convenient photocopier though I would be cautious of using it because capability much as the cost per page is pretty high.

Pricing information

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 isn't going to break the bank.

The color cartridges are rated in 700 pages and the black at 1000 pages.

Would I Get the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720?

On paper, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 ticks the majority of the boxes I'd look for in a little office printer. The single paper is an issue though -not just for picture paper but a lot of offices prefer to keep letterhead, bills or other office stationary handy without needing to have to mess around with paper trays. And my difficulties with photo paper, which could be remedied with paper, worry me.

The copying and scanning functions are useful but the lack of duplex scanning, which I have not seen in a multi-function at this price point, would put me off as well.

But, for $300 it is a very tempting device. Print quality is great and it is very fast. But I'd probably save my money for something with a couple more attributes.
